Some Basic Information about the course
The course is divided into three thematic sections:
- Lessons 1–3 are aimed at familiarizing students with new vocabulary.
- Lessons 4–6 develop students’ ability to compose various types of documents, predominantly official documents.
- Lessons 7–9 introduce students to texts of various styles and registers, including literary works, and test students’ ability to write essays of an advanced level in Polish.
And at the end of the course, in Lesson 10, students revise and recap both on the material that they have covered during the course and on the skills that they have acquired.
Each lesson comprises three sections:
- Reading and comprehension of a selected text
- Extra information and interesting facts about the covered topics (in Polish)
- Exercises
- A test
As the first task of each lesson students must carefully read through the text. Some of the texts are preceded by questions that are intended to facilitate comprehension of the given text and that serve as hints to what students should pay attention while reading the text. All the texts are taken from Polish books and newspapers, and they are unedited texts that Poles read regularly.
The “Extra information and interesting facts” section gives students the chance to find out more about the studied topics.
The exercises assist students in their independent study to develop their language competence.
The test allows students to monitor their progress. The results are available immediately after the tests have been completed :)
All course materials are written in Polish; therefore, students can take advantage of the wealth of constructions and information offered in the target language.
The course has been developed with the interests of students who wish to work independently in improving their knowledge of Polish in mind. Therefore, it is up to the individual how much time he or she devotes to learning the material included in each chapter. Just remember: it’s always best to approach learning a language systematically! You can check your progress by completing both the exercises and the tests, which, I hope, will encourage you to study further.
